Alleged Durban cop killer arrested

On Monday, 11 October 2021, members of the Hawks from its Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, working together with Crime Intelligence, the provincial Trio Task Team and the Durban Flying Squad arrested a 23-year-old suspect for the murder of a police official.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said Sergeant Siyabonga Radebe, who was stationed at the Umlazi K9 unit was shot on 15 June 2021.

Radebe was off duty at the time of the shooting and had been playing a game of pool at C section in Umlazi, Durban.

“It is alleged that two suspects entered the place and fired several shots at him. He was taken to hospital for medical attention and was declared dead on arrival.

“A case of murder was reported at Umlazi police station and the case docket was allocated to the Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation team for intensive investigation. On 19 June 2021, police arrested Siphindile Sithole, 33, and her accomplice was fatally shot during the shootout with police.

“The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court tomorrow and possibly join Sithole in the same court on Friday,” Mhlongo said.
