ANC: NEC statement calling for it to be rescued from ‘arrogant’ Ramaphosa is fake news

The governing African National Congress (ANC) has condemned “fake news peddlers” for issuing a false national executive committee (NEC) statement calling for it to be rescued from the ANC’s “arrogant” president, Cyril Ramaphosa, and from the party’s deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte.

In the statement, which ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe described as “false and malicious”, the governing party’s NEC says it is “very tired” of being controlled by an “arrogant and un-organisational Ramaphosa who bought the national conference!”.

The false statement calls on ANC KwaZulu-Natal members, who are described as being ” vigilant and resolute”, to “defend” the governing party.

The false statement reads: “Please rescue us from this Ramaphosa who controls everyone! Lastly we would like to appeal to all members of the ANC to rescue us! Please save the NEC! Please save the ANC from this man before the movement is finished from him and Jessie Duarte.”

In a statement condemning the false one, Mabe said this was the work of individuals “hell bent on spreading lies and undermining the standing of the ANC in society”.

“These fake news peddlers have now arrogated  themselves the role of impersonating the ANC’s department of information and publicity (DIP), including distributing false and malicious statements to feed into their nefarious appetite.

“The latest in this regard is a fake media statement purporting to be from DIP, in which untested and unsubstantiated allegations are made against National Officials, specifically President Cyril Ramaphosa and Deputy Secretary General Jessie Duarte.

“It is clear that wedge drivers who hate to see a united ANC are now on overdrive, trying everything possible to undermine the unity and collective resolve of our leadership to renew our movement.

“We urge our structures and members to remain vigilant and defend the unity of their organisation against those who seek to weaken it. The unity of our movement remains sacrosanct and far more paramount than peddlers who thrive on deception,” Mabe said.
