A 25-year-old suspect has been arrested in East London, Eastern Cape, after the mutilated body parts of his 23-year-old girlfriend were found in a suitcase on Thursday morning.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said the grisly discovery was made after local police who were patrolling at Fitzpatrick Road at Quigney, East London, were stopped by a motorist who informed them about a body that was stuffed in a suitcase.
“On their arrival at the corner of Fleet Street and Fitzpatrick road a suitcase with a body of a 23-year-old female was found, next to it was a black bag with other body parts.
“Whilst at the scene, police received information that a 25-year-old suspect believed to be linked to the murder was found and immediately arrested,” Kinana said.
Further investigations led the police to the house where the two lived and a. plastic bag with other parts of the body was also discovered, Kinana said.
Kinana added that preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspect and the deceased were in a relationship and had been living together for some time.
“Reports suggest that the deceased was a law student at Fort Hare University in East London,” Kinana said.
Kinana further said that once the suspect has been charged he is expected to appear in the East London Magistrates’ Court on Friday on a charge of murder.
Eastern Cape police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has strongly condemned the act of brutality against the young woman.
