Suspect in kidnapping of 50 Ethiopian nationals due back in court on Monday

A 50-year-old man, Ahmed Kafecho, appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Monday, 18 October 2021, facing charges related to Trafficking In Persons (TIP) with alternative counts of attempted extortion and kidnapping.

The spokesperson of the national prosecuting authority (NPA) Phindi Mjonondwane said the attempted extortion and kidnapping alternative counts stem from allegations that the accused demanded money from the families of the men held captive, in exchange for their release.
